FIRST BLOOD TO EASTERN KNIGHTS The BP-SHELL Cup Team Lightning proved to be a very exciting and ejoyable event this year, albeit with only six clubs taking part. The tournament has been dominated by Eastern Knights and HMC over the past fifteen years (with the odd intrusion by Met Police and Railways). This year it looked as though NALGO were going to walk away with the title for the first time since 1996, with 3/3 in the first three rounds. But a late spurt of two 4-0 wins by Eastern Knights in the last two rounds, (one of them against NALGO) leap-frogged them to the top, as three teams finished top on match points and had to be separated by game points. Click here for the table. Six teams of four took part - a total of 24 players. It would be really great if we could get the same number at the Sir Eric Drake Individual Lightning to be played at the same venue on December 15th. And as this is a seeded tournament it means that the weaker players have a much better chance of challenging for the title than they would have with a normal Swiss.
